SIPA is a collective initiative that supports marginalised craftpersons directly by focussing on sustainable livelihood and income generation activities.
Handcrafted metalcraft and basketry in many attractive and innovative designs are being presented at an exhibition currently on at SIPA's Craft Link Shoppe, 70, Kodambakkam High Road, till August 28.
The metal crafts range from bronze Chola and Hoysala images and icons to contemporary metal craft lamp stands, fruit bowls, wrought iron baskets and trays, boxes in interesting shapes, coasters, candle stands, pencil boxes etc.
From Karnataka's artisans come brass artefacts and wall hangings which have a glittering silvery sheen.
The palm leaf basketry products are a delight. Beautifully woven and finished, and in pleasing colour combination, they are hand-crafted by artisans of Pulicat, Mampad and Vellore. The natural colour of the palmyra leaf has been exploited to the hilt with touches of pink, blue and red.
