Hariharan will pay tribute to legends of yesteryear and contemporaries too.
MUSICAL FEAST: Hariharan regales viewers.
The television software industry in Malayalam, so far confined mostly to the making of serials, comedy skits and a few current affairs magazines, is ready to hit the big time.
With artistes being flown in from all parts of the country and even abroad and no cost being spared to ensure quality, software for the entertainment segment could see itself on a roll very soon. Setting the ball rolling is Symphony TV, being anchored on screen and off it by Krishna Kumar, anchor of a musical programme by that name till recently, with a celebrity-packed programme titled `Melody' on Surya TV beginning August 20.
Musical kaleidoscope
`Melody,' Krishna Kumar says, would offer a unique audio-visual experience for the viewers with `musical kaleidoscope,' the entire set, anchor, singer and orchestra merging into different colour patterns depending on the mood of the song.
If Srinivas flew down from London for the shoot that went on till the wee hours of the next day, Hariharan was at his dashing best, donning clothes and hairdo to match the songs featured in his two episodes, recalls Krishna Kumar.
The opening episodes of `Melody' would feature the feisty Hariharan paying his tribute to legends of yesteryear such as K.L. Saigal, Kishore Kumar, Mukesh and Manna Dey and his contemporaries, K.J. Jesudas and S.P. Balasubramaniam. It would also see his famous improvisation techniques in full bloom. K.S. Chitra has done a similar turn paying respects to Lata Mangeshkar, S. Janaki and P. Suseela and rendering songs from different periods in Malayalam cinema.
Further episodes of `Melody' would feature Usha Uthup, Srinivas, Kalyani, Markose and Balabhaskar.
