The romance lingers

Gemini Ganesh

International Entertainers would have hardly realised what they were bargaining for when they handed over the mike to chief guest, P. B. Srinivas, at the very beginning of their Gemini Ganesh Nite at Kalaivanar Arangam. Sure, none can forget PBS' melodies. Yet when his harangue went on and on, you clearly understood the restlessness of those on stage and off it. Finally by the time the musicians and singers took over it was rather too late to revive the zest of the modest crowd.

Songs from Ganesh's films had been carefully chosen. After some initial hiccoughs singer G. N. Prasad settled down to present some enjoyable fare. Making ample amends were singers Kalpana and Prasanna, though Kalpana's voice that evening wasn't at its usual best.

The show could have been planned better. Yet the organisers deserve to be lauded for their effort.
