Perfect poise

Ajay Kumar's choreography and his talented troupe lent finesse to the performance.

Ajay Kumar, a bundle of dancing talent and an expert hand in choreography is already a popular name in Vijayawada's cultural arena. Young Ajay Kumar started a dance institute Hamsadhvani Nrityalaya, which inspires a number of students to learn both Kuchipudi and Bharathanatyam.

He has choreographed several dance dramas such as Siva Leelalu, Mahishasura Mardini, Mohini Bhasmasura and Navarasa Manoharam, which were staged all over the State and outside receiving accolades.

Ajay Kumar's speciality is donning female roles and he has received praise from none other than the celebrated Kuchipudi exponent, Vedantam Satyanarayana Sarma.

His perfectly suited figure, facial features and abhinaya do justice to female leads in dance dramas.

The recent dance programme presented by Ajay Kumar's troupe under the aegis of the Andhra Arts Academy at the V.H. Grandhalayam Hall stood as proof for the institute's thoroughness and discipline in all aspects.

The items presented were Mahadeva sutam, Sarasijanabha sodari and Anjanisutha and a few group dances. Ajay Kumar and his troupe members S.K. Padusha, M. Surendranath, P. Santakumar, P. Anusha and K. Chaitanya presented every item showing fine co-ordination, good laya synchronization, fine abhinaya and sensible costumes.

K. Suryanarayana who specialized in singing for dance performances was fittingly felicitated on the occasion. Among the solo items presented by Ajay Kumar, the famous Narayana teerdha tarangam, Alokaye sakhi Balakrishnam stood out as the highlight.

Ajay excelled in the female role. Other talented members in the troupe were Chaitanya, Geeta Poornima, Soujanya and Bhanusri. Suryanarayana's vocal support was an embellishment.
