Rabindra Sangeet

Swapna Ghoshal and Prabuddha Raha presented Rabindra Sangeet this past Sunday at the India Habitat Centre.

Mani Ratnam Films

Habitat Film Club screened some of director Mani Ratnam's films including "Nayakan", "Iruvar", "Bombay" and "Dil Se".

Music Concerts

Aditi Kaikini Upadhyaya, daughter and disciple of Pandit Dinkar Kaikini presented a Hindustani vocal recital at the IIC early this week. She was accompanied by Prasun Chatterjee on the tabla and Samarajit Choudhary on the harmonium. Gayathri Fine Arts presented a Carnatic vocal recital by Vasantha Sundaram at the Triveni Chamber Theatre. She was accompanied by VSK Chakrapani (violin), N. Padmanabhan (mridangam) and N. Kannan (ghatam). Delhi Tamil Sangam presented vocal music concerts by Prethi Rajendran and party, Ishanti Gangopathyaya and party and Master Kaushik and party.

Musical Tributes

Kashi Baithak Sangeet Sabha presented a classical music concert in memory of the late shehnai maestro Pandit Vishnu Prasanna at the LTG auditorium. The programme included a sarod recital by Rakesh Prasanna, a shehnai and sitar jugalbandi by Rajendra Prasanna and Ustad Saeed Zafar and a vocal recital by Ustad Iqbal Ahmed Khan. Another musical tribute, this time to the unknown soldiers, was presented by the Pandit Chaturlal Memorial Society. The programme, Amar Jyoti, held at the Siri Fort auditorium, featured a sitar recital by Ustad Shujaat Hussain Khan with Sudhir Pandey on the tabla, and a presentation by the living legends Pt. Kishan Maharaj (tabla), Pt. Birju Maharaj (Kathak) and Pt. Rajan and Sajan Mishra (vocal).
