A flautist's tribute

GUDIPOODI SRIHARI

Jayaprada's mellifluous recital went well with Janmashtami.

Jayaprada Ramamurthy.

A melodious flute recital by talented Jayaprada Ramamurthy, marked the Srikrishna Jayanthi celebrations held at Tivoli Gardens, last week by Sanathana Dharma Trust, led by Sivananda Murthy.

Jayaprada made the audience experience the beauties of the ragas she played in all the phases of their development. She devoted her entire repertoire to themes on Lord Krishna , to suit the occasion. She proved very clear in every movement of the exposition and never missed that important element of mellifluousness, in her presentation.

Perfect occasion

The breezy spells too, were with clarity, keeping to the continuous melodic lilt, proving her position as one of the accomplished young artistes of the day. She opened with Natakuranji varnam and followed it with a Thyagaraja's pancharatna kirtana - Sadhinchene, in Arabhi. The kirtana was most suitable for the occasion of Sri Krishna Jayanthi as, it describes the Lord's wonderful deeds and traits . Similarly, her choice of Deekshitar's composition Govardhana Girisam in Hindolam also was well tuned to the occasion. The composition written in Sanskrit eulogised Lord Krishna. Jayaprada gave enough time for the delineation of the raga too, creating a pleasant musical atmosphere.

No wonder, she chose another theme in playing the Kannada composition Krishna Nee Begane Baro followed by Tamil- Theerada Vilayatta Pillai in Ragamalika, to suit the occasion. Veteran Kokkonda Subrahmanya Sarma lent a fine violin support with complementary touch in raga and swara exercises, accentuating the impact. Aravind followed on mridangam. Satguru Sivanandamurthy felicitated the artistes and spoke of the significance of Bhagavad Geetha that had answers for all the problems of mankind as enunciated by Lord Krishna.
