UPHILL TASK Bhagavad Gita presented by Sri Bhagavatula Sethuram and party
Episodes from Valmiki Ramayana choreographed by Rukminidevi and Bhagavadgita by Bhagavatulu Sethuram from Kuchipudi Nritya Academy, Hyderabad, were the hallmark performances during Natyanjali-2005, held recently at the Kalamandira, Mysore. The special publication unfolding the different facets of music (Music and Bhakti, Music and Brain, Mysticism of Sound in Music, Music and Aesthetics, Music and Astrology Music Therapy, and Sruthi in Music), dedicated to Bharatharatna M.S. Subbalakshmi was released by the doyen of music, Padmavibhushana M. Balamurali Krishna. The group dance feature of the abstract theme Bhagavadgita was a challenging task to Bhagavatulu Sethuram. During the course of the ballet, the essence of the gita, particularly the conversations between Sri Krishna and Arjuna were brought out. Group choreography of shlokas was sprightly. With conspicuous "aharya", the artiste did not justify with "satvikabhinaya". Vocal support by A. Karna Rao and Sharada Reddy, the diction in narration of the epics by director Sethuram were valuable for the success of the performance. The dance drama of Mahapattibhisheka from the scene of Sita's Agnipravesh to prove her chastity concluded with the coronation ceremony of Sri Rama. The phenomenal stage dιcor of the coronation ceremony with Vedic rituals and the special lighting effects to exhibit the flames of fire were exhilarating. The coronation ceremony with all its grandeur needed the decorative performance of dance to elevate the event. Hariprasad on vocal scored high in rendering vocal and vedic hymns, while Haripadman gave life to the character of Hanuman. Melodious music and resplendent performance by the artistes were illustrious.
