THE RIGHT NOTE S. Srivani strums the strings.
With a style marked with dexterous ease the veena recital by S. Srivani turned out to be a veritable treat of Carnatic music. The Sri Vijaya Tyagaraja Sangeetha Sabha had organised the concert in the Conference Hall of the Public Library.
A gold medallist at the post-graduate level in music from the Andhra University, recipient of second and first prizes at the national youth festivals consecutively in 1999 and 2000, recipient of the scholarship from the Ministry of HRD and a cash award of Rs. 10,000 from the Government of Andhra Pradesh, Srivani, is also a `B' grade artiste with the Akashvani.
In the recital, she was commendably supported on the violin by Vedula Srikiran, on the mridangam by G. Venkata Rao (principal, D.V.N. Kalakshetra) and Y.P.S. Madhu Babu on the ghatam.
She spiritedly started the recital with the bhairavi atataala varnam - Viriboni.
Sustaining the tempo with gusto, she played Vataapi adorned with flowing swaram in Paikaalam, Lavanya Rama (Purnashadjam), Sudhamayi (Amritavarshini) embellished with an absorbing alapana and vibrant swaram, Padavi Nee Sadbhakti (Saalagabhairavi) and exquisitely elaborated O Ranga Sai (Kaambhoji) before she took up ragam tanam pallavi.
The pallavi was set in Trisra Triputa in Subhapantuvarali. The traverses reflected aesthetic expression of Manodharma in aalapana and the tanam part and fluency in swarakalpana. Sri Kiran on the violin in his turn and Venkata Rao along with Madhu Babu in his thani contributed to the grandeur. She concluded the recital playing the Dhanasri thillana.
