Onam gala on television

TV channels have readied a number of special shows for this festive season.

Onam is here, and television channels have decided to add more colour to the celebrations. Asianet has prepared a feast of special programmes for Onam. The channel completes 12 years this year. To coincide with the anniversary celebrations, the channel has prepared an interesting schedule of shows for Onam. The programmes will start on September 6 (Atham) and will go on till September 17.

The programmes include interviews with film stars such as Laya, Sandhya and Bharath. `Meerayum Dileepum Singaporeil' will be a chat with actress Meera Jasmine and Dileep, `Kusruthykkalam' is a game show for kids, `Vakkinte Sangeetham' will be a chat with young playback singers, `Mohanlalinte Ammayodoppam - Mathrusannidihyil' will be a chat with Mohanlal's mother and she will take viewers down memory lane. Besides there will be `Chillujalakam,' a programme based on interviews with actors such as Suresh Gopi, Vikram and others.

While Asianet completes 12 years, Amritha Television is gearing up to celebrate its first Onam. Among the shows planned by Amritha are `Onavirunukkal,' in which people varied backgrounds such as singer K.S. Chitra, music director M. Jayachandran, Minister for Public Works, K.M. Muneer, and magician Muthukkad share their memories of Onam with viewers.

A special episode of `Samagamam' will feature Mohanlal. And that is not all, three films by Mani Ratnam - `Alaipayuthe,' `Iruvar,' and `Bombay' will be screened during the festivities. `Vilpanekk,' a telefilm directed by M. T. Vasudevan Nair, `Palpayasam' and `Grihapravesham' are some of the other special shows.

Surya TV's Onam programmes include shows on folk art forms such as `Naadan Pattu,' `Bhagavatham,' `Sopanageetham,' `Pulluvanpaatu' and `Villpaatu.' There will be interviews with film stars such as Sandhya, (`Kaathal Sandhya') and Tamil actor Vikram (`Njaan Anniyan Alla'). There will be an interview with Mammootty on the sets of the film `Rajamanikkyam.' Kavya Madhavan will share her experiences in `Santhosham Kavya,' and so will Jagathy Sreekumar in `Ambiliyan Taram.' The films to be telecast are `Chronic Bachelor,' `Balettan,' `Sadanandante Samayam,' `Meerayude Dukhavum Muthuvinte Swapnavum.'

All these programmes will be aired on September 14, 15, 16 and 17.
