Kelucharan awards

Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra award was instituted by him 11 years back to honour fellow artistes.

The recipients include Pandit Shivkumar Sharma to Pandit Jasraj and Girija Devi.

Given to an artiste each in four fields — dance, music, theatre and cinema — for contribution to the field the award carries Rs. 25,000 in cash with a citation.

This year will be the second time this award would be given away in the absence of Guru Kelucharan. To be conferred on four artistes on September 16, the award is primarily meant for people who have reached the top in their respective fields but might not be financially very well-off.

This year the artistes nominated by the jury for the award are Guru Raghunath Dutta (dance), Rakhal Mohanty (music) Master Kashinath Sahu (theatre) and Surendra Sahu (cinema).
