A case of love at first sight

S. R. ASHOK KUMAR

Five national award winners with Priya V. at the helm are involved in the production of ``Kanda Naal Mudhal.

TITLE SAYS IT ALL: Kanda Naal Mudhal.

Prasad Studios is abuzz with activity, what with the shooting of two films in progress. We join the unit of Duet Movies's ``Kanda Naal Mudhal" where director Priya V is busy doing patch up shots on a road nearby.

Priya, an understudy of Manirathnam, is explaining the kind of emotion she wants from Prasanna and Karthik Kumar comes up with his reaction. Karthik Kumar, hero of "Vanam Vasappadum" directed by P. C. Sriram, is another hero in the film. The shots were done by J. Sriram himself.

Song sequence

After an hour the unit moved to Prasad Studio to shoot song sequence with only the heroes.

This is the first hip-hop song to be seen in a Tamil film, it is claimed. It has English and Tamil words and Yuvan Shankar Raja has beautifully composed the song. The song is about two friends and their attitudes, diametrically opposite, to marriage. Clinton sings it with Yuvan Shankar Raja for Prasanna and Karthik Kumar. Thamarai has written all the songs. E. Ramdas has written the dialogue.

Director Priya V. is happy to have five national award winners in her team — Prakash Raj (producer), Srikar Prasad (editor), Sriram (cameraman), Lakshminarayan (sound) and Thotta Tharani (art direction). The film has been shot in Bankok, Puket and Chennai.

The cast includes Laksmi, Revathi, Jagan, Devadharshini and a surprise appearance in the form of Srinivasamurthy, music conductor for A. R. Rahman. Well, what about the storyline? ``Why, the title says it all," smiles the director. ``The incidents that happen in the life of three persons dominate the screenplay," he adds.

One wants to know why Prakash Raj has not acted in his own film. Unless absolutely essential neither the director nor the actor would like to be in the film, sources close to the unit say.
