NOVEL SCREENPLAY: On the sets of `Ezhudhiyadharadi.'
Dedicated souls do not rest until the task is completed. This was in evidence when one walked into the sets of SSS Good Luck Films' ``Ezhudhiyadharadi." It was lunchtime. While the unit hands were taking a catnap, director Srisathyaragavendar and hero Ramana were busy, the latter checking up the lines and the director discussing the post-lunch scene with his assistant.
Srisathyaragavendar makes his debut after having worked with various directors including Aravindaraj, Aabavannan, Duraipandian and Ravi. The director, incidentally, has also written the screenplay, dialogue and the lyrics for the film produced by Srish Kandaraja. It is a love story with a difference. Sounds clichéd? But Srisathayragavendar insists it is. ``It has been with me for at least four years and I was shaping and chiselling it.
The scene is Moonar where I spent a long time to get the feel of the place. In fact I wanted to shoot the entire film there but incessant rain forced us to leave. Now we are doing the patchwork here."
The hero
The hero Ramana started in "Style" with dance master Lawrence. He became popular with "Meesai Madhavan" and "Anthanaal Niyabagam." He also essayed an anti hero role in "Jore." Of the four Telugu films two were hits. "Fools," directed by Dasari Narayana Rao, was actually a big success. Apart from "Ezhudiyadharadi" he is acting in ``Peravai" directed by Mannavan.
"The novel screenplay is sure to make the film a success," says Ramana.
``The director knows the nuances of all the departments of filmmaking and the audience will love the new approach," he says oozing with confidence.
It was action time. The hero finds a gift-wrapped package in his car. Surprised, he takes it home. He opens it with suspicion and curiosity and out jump, hold your breath, a couple of doves! One of them bears a message ``Kandupidi." Who would have sent this to me, he wonders aloud.
"We have shot quite a few scenes in the rain. Full credit to the technicians who applied themselves to the task without a whimper. Hariharan is handling the camera and Michael is taking care of art. Shanmugham and Perumal are the editors. Music is especially important in an ambience like this and Srimahan has not let me down. We are going back there after completing some indoor scenes," the director explained.
