Added attraction for tourists
The Dhanvantri temple at Melpudupet near Walajapet has an added attraction with the establishment of `Kaala Chakram,' a circular garden containing the trees to match the 27 stars, the 12 `raasis' (zodiac signs) and the Navagrahas.
About three months ago, the authorities planted 36 trees 27 to match the 27 stars and 12 raasis (some of the trees are common for the stars and `raasis' and nine trees to match the Navagrahas.
The devotees can water the trees matching their stars or `raasis' between 3 and 4.30 p.m. on Tuesdays and do `Pradhakshana' for the `Kaala Chakram'.
While the `Kaala Chakram' would remain in front of the temple, a `Nakshathra Vanam' has been created in the temple land, where all these trees are planted separately to enable devotees to do `Pradhakshana' for the respective tree.
S. Muralidharan, organiser of the Dhanvantri Arogya Peedam, said that the devotees could continue to send Dhanvantri Mantras to the temple, which has a proposal to erect 108 `Mantra Sthoopis' (pillars built over Mantras).
Each pillar would be built on 1,00,008 Mantras written by devotees on notebooks available with the Peedam.
The 28th day of November every year would be observed as Mantra Prathishta Day.
The Mantras sent before April 13 every year would be placed beneath the location earmarked for the erection of the pillar on November 28.
Mahalakshmi Yagam was performed in the temple on September 5, when foundation was also laid for an old age home-cum-medical centre.
