Pallavi Krishnan's Mohiniyattom recital was one of the highlights of `Lavanyam-2005.'

DANCE OF THE ENCHANTRESS: Pallavi Krishnan.
A performer of immense calibre, Pallavi Krishnan was all grace during her performance for `Lavanyam-2005,' which were organised by Kerala Tourism Department in connection with the Onam celebrations.
She amalgamates the styles of her gurus, Kalamandalam Leelamma and Bharati Shivaji.
Pallavi managed to seamlessly blend the music and her movements. She began with `Ananda Ganapathi' set to raga Puranir. Tumbellam akattane en puraane,' was beautifully expressed by her. From `Ananda Ganapathi,' the benevolent form of the Lord, it went on to the vivacious and aggressive forms of Ganesha.
Regional flavour
The regional flavour was reinforced in raga Paadi and Neelambari in the `mukhachalam' performed later. The distinct tala patterns in the piece were quite intricate and the percussionists often lost their grip over the rhythm but the danseuse did not falter. `Maya mohana Krishna,' which elucidates in detail the various exploits and deeds of Krishna, is an item that has a lot of scope for abhinaya. The dancer's movements were characteristic of the Bharati Shivaji school. The dancer decided to skip the ashtapadi that was on the printed schedule, and proceeded to the famous Kalyani padam `Endu mama sadanathil' of Swati Tirunal.
On the Veena, Trichur Murali's rendition of Kalyani evoked mood of pensive romance.
After the break, Pallavi looked refreshed and came close to attaining the agony and trepidation of the khandita nayika.
She performed well the inebriated state of the nayika after she is smitten by the arrows of Kama. The final union with her lord, who is Lord Padmanabha himself, sees the transformation in the nayika who attains spiritual fulfilment.
Another rhythm-oriented piece was `Touryatrikam.'
The gradual progression in Chembada tala culminating in an effect of the thayambaka, provided for a dramatic finale.
