Weekly's efforts lauded

That `Chira Sandhan' strives to promote the culture and literature of Orissa was underscored at its annual function.

Chira Sandhan, a weekly, has been a newspaper with a difference. Its avowed objective of promoting literature and culture of the State was again underscored at its annual function held recently.

The function was graced by eminent poet, Prasanna Patsani, famous economist-writer, Baidyanath Mishra and prominent fiction writer, Shantanu Acharya, who again talked about how journalism is a part of the bigger canvas of literature.

Chira Sandhan's attempt at promoting values in the society and bringing up the nuggets of our literary and cultural heritage were lauded.

The newspaper's editor, Parthasarathi Ajay Barik, described his effort as a "man-making factory" and expressed concern at the declining, integrity, principles and human values.

The newspaper observes the birthdays of great poets like Gangadhar Meher and Upendra Bhanja and felicitates deserving talents as part of its overall attempt at preservation and promotion of Orissa's cultural essence.

The function was held in Bhubaneswar and a book Bigyanara Bhittibhumi re Darshana, Dharma and Bhagaban was released on the occasion.

Written by Duryodhan Nayak the book gives a close look at concepts of God, religion and phiolosophy against the backdrop of scientific temper pervading today's society .
