She did her Sangeet visharada in Hindustani classical music from Gandharba Mahavidyalaya, Mumbai and had extensive training in Odissi music too under the tutelage of her aunt, the celebrated singer Bhubaneswari Mishra.
After getting trained by Pandit Chittaranjan Pani, she is now taking lessons from Shanti Sharma in New Delhi.
Mousumi's maiden appearance in an album was when she sang in the bhajan album Ashtabhuja of Giridhar Gamango, former Chief Minister of Orissa and musician of repute.
Although she came into notice initially when she emerged a winner in a musical competition by ETV (Oriya).
Clarity of rendition
Blessed with a mellifluous voice Mousumi impresses with clarity of rendition that is usually Bhav-laden . She is an artiste with the All India Radio.
Mousumi's maiden album Ae Manara Chora Pathe heralds her as a singing talent to reckon with because if anything stands out in this album of 10 modern Oriya numbers it is the singer.
Perfect blend
With a perfect blend of mellifluence and clarity she infuses the songs with the requisite emotion.
The album begins with a folksy Chadehi tu phur kari. The title track coming up next is catchy too.
Two other numbers that soothe the sense are Janha ku magile and a ghazal-like Luha sabu bohi gale.
Veteran Shantanu Mohapatra wields the musical baton and though a number of songs give one a sense of deja vu the compositions score on melody and romantic sadness.
