Striking costumes and age-old tradition lent colour to this folk art.

Karnataka is famous for its traditional Yakshaganam. Even in these modern times, the torch of the traditional Yakshaganam is aflame.
The Vijayawada Kannada Seva Sangha presented a Kannada Yakshaganam, Soorphanakha Garvabhangam staged by an expert troupe hailing from Dharmasthala.
The strikingly colourful costumes and the novel way of rendering the age-old music sitting in the middle of the stage, lent a distinct colour and charm to the programme.
Charming programme
The episodes of the very native form of the dance drama dealt with Lakshmana slicing the ears and nose of Soorphanakha when she tries to seduce Rama, the humiliated Soorphanakha asking the rakshasaskhara, Dooshana and Trisara to take vengeance on Rama on her behalf and finally Rama killing the three rakshasas.
Sticking to tradition, the female roles were also donned by males.
Excellent performances came from Kumbai Sridhar Rao, Sadasiva Kulal, Gangadhara Govinda Bhatt, Eswara Prasad, Lakshminarayana Bhatt, Sivaprasada Bhatt, Mohan, Mahesh, Ganapathi Nayak, Radhakrishna Girish and Padmanabha Bhatt.
The secretary of the Kannada Seva Seva Sangha, M. Rajaram welcomed the guests and introduced the artistes.
