Music competition

The Mylapore Fine Arts Club is conducting a music competition in vocal and instrumental categories, from October 9 on every Sunday. Application forms can be had from the sabha office at 45, Musiri Subramaniam Salai, Mylapore (Ph: 2499 7755).

Music classes

The Kunnakudy School of Music, Tiruvanmiyur, is celebrating Vijayadasami on October 12 at 3 p.m. at the school premises (14/65, Rajaji Nagar, 1st Street). Admissions are open for vocal, instrumental music and Bharatanatyam.

SHI-BA Sangeetha Sabha, Villivakkam (Ph: 94440-10215/2618 0611) is conducting Sri Ramadevi Charana Mandra Homam during Navarathri, on October 7 (6-9 a.m.). Admissions for music, dance, drawing, abacus, yoga, sloka and meditation classes are open on Vijayadasami day.

Book release

The book, `Muthuswami Dikshitar and Tiruvarur', written by Sumathi Krishnan, will be released by musicologist, V. V. Srivatsa, on October 7 at 6 p.m. at C. P. Ramaswami Aiyar Foundation, The Grove, 1, Eldams Road, Alwarpet. B. Madhavan, secretary, Madras Sanskrit College, will receive the first copy. This will be followed by `A musical tribute to Saraswati' by Sumathi Krishnan accompanied by Amrita Murali (violin) and R. Hemant (mridangam).

Temple festival

As part of Navarathri celebrations, Aadhipureeswarar Temple, Chintadripet (Ph: 2845 2394), has organised discourses daily on `Abirami Andhadhi' till October 13 between 6.30 p.m. and 7.30 p.m. by Mu. A. Manikavelu.

Celebrations are on at Sri Bhuvaneswari Bhaktha Mandali, Adambakkam (Ph: 2253 2323), at the temple premises. Everyday mass prayer (10 a.m.), Navavarana puja (6.30 p.m.) and special archanas (8 p.m.) will be conducted.

Seva Trust, Villivakkam is celebrating the festival at Mani Mandapam, Sri Hayagrivar Sannidhi till October 13, at 7 p.m.
