DIFFERENT ACT: K.J. Jesudas during the filming.
The set of Vinayan's new film `Boyy friennd,' which is being shot at Vandanur, 28 kilometres from Thiruvananthapuram city, had a distinguished guest playing a role.
He is no debutant and so enacting the role was not a difficult task. But he says, "Acting in films is not my cup of tea. The dust, it affects my throat." The actor was none other than K.J. Jesudas who spent two days working on the sets of the film. But he looked quite pleased.
In the garb of an actor
Narrating the situation is the director of the film Vinayan, "Jesudas visits an old friend of his, an office peon Khadar Das, enacted by Mamu Koya. The purpose of the visit is to attend the wedding of Khadar Das' daughter played by newcomer Honey."
At the wedding, Jesudas, wearing a sherwani-kurta, sings a mappila pattu at the request of Khadar Das, while the younger generation dances an oppana. The lilting lyrics are by Kaithapram and music is by M. Jayachandran. After the song, a big argument and fight breaks out between the two sides and Jesudas mediates.
"It is quite easy to work with Dasettan as an actor. He is patient, grasps the essence quickly and learns the dialogue within minutes," Vinayan is all praise.
What prompted Jesudas to take up the role?
"I liked the social message the film wishes to convey. Then the character of Khadar Das in the film instantly reminded me of my own old friend and classmate Thangal. Thangal was a person who had to face difficulties because of his forthright nature. In fact, I borrowed money from him to travel to Madras."
This will be Jesudas' twelfth appearance in films.
