Captain as patriot

S. R. ASHOK KUMAR

His entry into politics makes Vijayakanth's `Sudesi' an interesting proposition.

VILLAGE SCENE: From `Sudesi.'

When captain is around everything is smooth sailing. This was evident in the shooting of Captain Cine Creations's "Sudesi" at Lamac Club, behind MGR's old house in Ramavaram. ``We needed the exterior for the location. We are going to the studio for interior," explained producer L. K. Sudeesh. "It is a complete entertainer with a message in it," he said about the film. Director Jaypee A.Y. has worked as co-director for nearly 15 years. "The film will be a landmark one for Vijayakanth," he says. ``The script has been chosen with care so that all his talents will be showcased. Also it has been timed to coincide with his entry into politics." The story is about a young man who comes from the village to make a living in the city. A patriot, he is dismayed by the way people are divided and pitted against each other. The young man does not know whether to be content with looking after himself or work for the cause of the country.

A sure hit

Ashima, who appeared in `Ramana,' is the heroine. ``The director has done his homework," says Vijayakanth. "Jaypee is not new to us. We liked the subject and each scene is being chiselled and polished.

The song that we shot in Pollachi will surely be a hit as it involves nearly 3,000 people. The director created a new village and people from far and near were roped in to participate. Kichas is handling the camera. Music director Srikanth Deva has worked hard to make each song memorable. My wife's brother Sudeesh being the producer, no expense or effort is being spared to make the film a hit."

So they are not going out of the country? ``Of course we are," says Jaypee. ``We are going to shoot a duet in a foreign country. Apart from that a fight in Mumbai with Pradeep Ravath who has acted in "Lagaan" remains to be done. A chase is to be shot in New Delhi," he informs. What about the political overtones and punch lines that the dialogue may have? The director is not forthcoming on that.
