NEW PLATFORM Tisca Chopra trying her luck with television.
Words flow when one strikes a conversation with Tisca Chopra. The lucidity of her replies forces one to prolong the discussion as the simplicity merged even in her repartee makes one inwardly smile.
The model-turned actress unequivocally reasons her long hiatus after her debut flick "Platform". "While working for `Platform' I realised I know nothing about acting. I took a break and for five years did only theatre. I did plays like `Mahatma V/s Gandhi', `Binodini' and `Inshallah', etc. I worked for Rs.500 per show under Feroz Khan's Platform Theatre where he taught me nuances of acting," she says.
For Tisca "Hyderabad Blues 2" flagged off a fresh innings and she finally seems to be finding her foot in television. However, her tryst with television occurred long back with two telefilms by Tigmanshu Dhulia. " But `Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki' was my first big break in television," she points out. " I have also worked in the `Saakshi' and `Astitva'. `Sarkar' is another serial of which I am doing," she adds.
So the switchover to TV didn't lead to the apprehension of being typecast as a television actress? " Not at all," she asserts. " TV offers tremendous challenge. As a medium it offers more range, more penetration. TV unlike films has very little hierarchy. It is much more humane and instantly nurtures a bond with the viewer," she opines.
A self-proclaimed perfectionist, Tisca admits that she becomes quite nervous before embarking on any new project. " The question how will I do this particular character keeps running in my mind. In Sarkar, I actually cried while delivering a scene," she insists.
Married for seven years, she dismisses the notion that the life as an actress dies after marriage. "Those who say that are making lame excuses. If you are good at your work and love what you are doing, if you are a nice human being and people want you around, you will be there even after your marriage," she emphasises.
This niece of Khushwant Singh, who has also done films like "Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan" and "Sau Jhooth Ek Sach" will be next seen in Fame Gurukul. "There will be a celebrity round where the celebrities will sing. It is going to be a national joke when I will sing as I am very bad at it," she laughs, adding, "Then I am planning to host some live shows. I will also be working in an international film on Afghanistan," she reveals.
Good going!
