A successful marriage, they say is between a blind woman and a deaf man. But there is one marriage which is neither between a blind woman and a deaf man, nor has the pleasure of friendship, senses and reasons. Yet it is titled "Shaadi No.1", courtesy director David Dhawan and producer Vashu Bhagnani.
Apart from the biggest star cast in a Bhagani film releasing this Diwali, the film has many firsts to its credit. "We have shot in Italy. This is for the first time a Hindi film is shot there. For the first time I have worked with Sanjay Dutt, for the first time David and I could zero in on one subject instantly. I was also the first man to get this film registered for release on Diwali. I was the first one to announce eight months back that I will release the film on November 3, and I am doing it. So many firsts, isn't the title justified," laughs Vashu though he adds that the title is David's choice only.
Mismatch pairing
The film, Vashu promises, is a laugh riot caused through the mismatched pairing between Fardeen Khan and Ayesha Takia, Zayed Khan and Esha Deol, Sharman Joshi and Soha Ali Khan, three more girls Riya Sen, Sophia Chowdhary and Aarti Chabaria wooing the misguided boys, and a spoil sport played by Sanjay Dutt. One may be reminded of "Masti" but Vashu declares, "Nothing like that. My film has six girls you know. The idea too is original, no copying from the West and no derivatives from `Masti'." The highlight of the film Vashu says is the examples that Dutt gives in his shots. "Every example will create a laugh riot. They will turn into slogans. During the shooting also, whenever Sanjay would give these examples, the whole unit would burst into laughter. So much so that from the cameraperson to the spot boys, all will roll in laughter and the shooting would be delayed each time for 15 to 20 minutes," recalls Vashu. Though before Vashu met Sanjay, he had his own apprehension about working with him; about his behaviour, payments, discipline and so on.
"I had known him for 10 years but never worked with him. I was so scared to work with him that I finished his dubbing first. But to my great surprise, he was extremely disciplined, cooperative and most professional among all other actors in the film. Unlike many actors, he didn't call me for his payment," Vashu says overwhelmingly.
