Remembering a genius

The annual event is held in memory of legendary singer, Akshaya Mohanty.

Paean to Mohanty.

Singer-writer Akshaya Mohanty was a legend in his lifetime. As a tribute to this genius, the Akshaya Mohanty Foundation holds an annual festival in the name of the legendary singer. Thus the Akshaya Utsav was born. It is celebrated on October 12, the singer's birthday. This year the festival was held for the fifth time and the late singer's family was present on the occasion. In the morning a state-level Akshaya music competition was held and the awardees in the senior, junior and sub-junior groups were felicitated in the evening.

After a website in the name of the singer was launched by the CM the musical tribute began with singers like Prashanta Muduli, Sailabhama, Bibhu Das, Mitali Chinnara, Sebarani Mohapatra, Bibhukishore, Sangeeta Gosain and the singer's son Chitrabhanu Mohanty rendering Akshaya hits including numbers from Dine ratire his last composition.

Kumar Utsav

Come Kumar Purnima and it is time for young girls to celebrate. Offering prayers to the moon, they pray for an eligible match. So it is a time of music, dance and games. Kumar Utsav embodies this festive spirit. Utkal Dance and Research Academy (UDRA) hosted Kumar Utsav recently. Presentation of Guru Shree Sahadev Padhi Memorial Award 2005 to tabla maestro Pandit Umesh Chandra Kar was the highlight of the function. This award had been instituted in the name of the Odissi guru Sahadev Padhi who was cut in his prime two years back. Guru Brajakishore Malick and Minakshi Behera composed the dance dramas.
