Impressions of monsoon

`Monsoon Revisited,' portrayed the many faces of rain.

WAVES OF INSPIRATION: A painting by Fr. Madathikunnel.

Each one of us has our own impression of rain, which portrays the many faces of nature.

For Father Biju Madathikunnel, rain has always been an inspiration for painting. He recently conducted a three-day exhibition of paintings based on the rain, billed `Monsoon Revisited,' at Jubilee Mission Medical College, Thrissur.

"The proceeds of these paintings go to the welfare of renal patients of this hospital," explains the artist when asked the reason for selecting a crowded hospital's hall for exhibiting his work.

Art for philanthropy

Most of the works are in water colour, which seems to be his favourite medium. Others are in acrylic, oil and mixed media. "We can enjoy rain from a variety of angles; but to visualise it through a painting is quite complicated, that too in water colour, which is a difficult media when compared to other mediums like oil," clarifies Fr. Biju. "The paintings are a result of my dream and research for a couple of years," adds the artist.

Three years ago he had conducted an exhibition titled `Face of Life' in Bangalore. The unexpected success encouraged him to do another , `Gift of God - Nature,' again in Bangalore; both for the benefit of street children in Bangalore.

Fr. Biju, who hails from Muttuchira, Kottayam, is a self-taught artist.
