Weekend film festival
PIONEER One of the most eccentric figures in the New German Cinema, Werner Herzog has been characterised as the romantic visionary of the movement
In cinema's most explosive yet productive collaboration, Werner Herzog and Klaus Kinski produced some of the most exciting and daring films of the 20th century. They made five feature films together and Herzog made a documentary on their relationship after Kinski's death. Collective Chaos presents Herzog-Kinski festival on October 22 and 23, at CFD, Sona Towers, Millers Road.
"The moment I first saw him, I knew it was my destiny to make films and his to act in them," Herzog said. This quote encapsulates the Herzog-Kinski relationship so well that it's completely irrelevant whether it's true or apocryphal. Though there is a lot yet to be written about this phenomenal pair, it is true that they a class by themselves. Though they made only five films together, Kinski's hypnotically sensual face, his wild, piercing eyes, became the agents for teh German director's own obsession with pushing the filmmaking process beyond all accepted frontiers.
The schedule of the films go thus. Woyzeck at 10 a.m., Nosferatu - the Vampire at 11.45 a.m., Aguirre the wrath of God at 3 p.m., Cobra Verde at 5 p.m., My Best Fiend (documentary) at 7 p.m.
