Life on the `Fast Track'
Dileep is an athlete in `Fast Track.'
SURGING AHEAD: Dileep as Arjun in 'Fast track'.
With a bag slung over his shoulder, Dileep walks down a path on the U.C. College campus, Aluva. Although it has been a couple of years since he bid farewell to college life, now Dileep is back on the campus as Arjun, for `Fast Track,' a movie directed by debutant Jayasoorya, who has now changed his name to S.Y. Soorya. Soorya, who has written the script, is the son of the late playwright S.L. Puram Sadanandan.
"It's great to be back on this campus. Did you know I was kicked out of this college on grounds of indiscipline? However, a few years ago, they invited me for a function and we had a good laugh," says Dileep. The story starts with Arjun, an athlete who has to look after his family after his father's death. Although he discontinued his studies midway, he decides to rejoin college. Why? "That's to be seen on screen," smiles Dileep.
He puts on a tracksuit for the next scene and meets Gauri and Rahul. Gazala, a popular actress in Tamil and Telugu films, is making her entry into Mollywood as Gauri and Madhu Warrier plays her brother Rahul.
Soorya got the story idea while shooting `Harikrishnans' in Chennai, during his stint as assistant to director Fazil. He says, "We were shooting in a playground and although there were stars like Mammootty, Mohanlal and Juhi Chawla, the athletes training there did not pay them any attention. Their dedication amazed me. Soon, a story was born."
Madhu Warrier is happy to team up with his brother-in-law for the first time on screen. "I have been frequently asked why I have never acted with Dileep in films. Now, with this role, I feel it has been worth the wait," says Madhu.
"Gauri is a bold girl," says Gazala throwing some light on her role in the movie.
Riyas `The Body' Khan plays "a baddie with a difference." He plays Tinu Nalinin the film. Jagathy Sreekumar is the physical education teacher, Kunjavaran, and Salimkumar, Lali, takes care of the canteen.
`Fast Track' is produced by Subair under the banner of Varnachithra. Renjan Abraham (editor), Joseph Nellickal (art director), A.R. Kannan (production controller) and Soorya Peter (stills photographer) are some of the members in the team. Gireesh Puthanchery's lines have been set to tune by Deepak Dev.
