Remembering the Holocaust

The Hyderabad Film Club is screening a retrospective of Artur Brauner films from tomorrow.

Artur Brauner, the most influential film producer of post-war Germany, with over 250 films to his credit, is responsible for various cinematic genres like musical romantic comedies, the idyllic post-World War "homeland" films and the thrillers. The Nazis invaded Brauner's hometown Lodz in Poland and he lost 49 relatives. He escaped but returned to Berlin in 1946 and married Maria, a holocaust survivor in 1947. Brauner's first movie to deal with the Holocaust, Morituri came out in 1948 but the public was not receptive to critical introspection. The mood changed in 1960s and Brauner was able to return to the topic close to his heart. The Hyderabad Film Club and the Goethe-Institut, Max Mueller Bhavan is organising a retrospective of his films at Sri Sarathi Studios from November 5. In all ten films would be screened including Morituri, The Plot to Assassinate Hitler, Witness out of Hell, Charlotte S., A Love in Germany, After Your Decrees, Angry Harvest, Hanussen, The Rose Garden and Europa Europa.
On November 5, the screenings will start at 5.30 p.m. and November 6, the screenings will start at 2.00 p.m. From November 7 to November 10, the screenings will be at 6.30 p.m. For more information, contact the Secretary of the Film Club, Bh Prakash Reddy, on 9391020243.
