Simbu goes back to school

S. R. ASHOK KUMAR

Silambarasan becomes a student again for ``Vallavan" that he directs with three heroines.

VALLAVAN: Where Silambarasan plays four different characters.

It is unusual for film stars to go back to the school in which they studied and even rarer to choose the location for shooting.

Thus when one heard that Silambarasan was shooting at the Santhome High School one wanted to be there.

Nostalgic

One caught up with Silambarasan, in a nostalgic mood, as he was meeting all his teachers. It was rather difficult to spot him, as he was clad in the school uniform and had merged with the crowd.

A segment of the shooting through, he came over for a chat. "It is a remarkable experience to work in the place where I studied," he began. ``I had an excellent rapport with my teachers. And some of them were special, who monitored my progress and shaped me. They taught me behaviour and values too," Simbu recalled.

"This is one of the important scenes we are shooting now. I should thank the school for giving me permission to bring my unit here," the hero said.

The crew moved to a garden nearby where Nayanthara, all made up, was ready. Himself the director, Simbu tells her the kind of reaction he wants. Picking up a pinch of kumkum he applies it on her forehead and she looks both pleased and shy. After Priyan cranks the shot, Simbu returns to say that he is happy with the co-stars.

``My name in the film is Valluvan, which later becomes Vallavan. I am doing four different characters and there are three heroines — Reema Sen, Nayanthara and Sandhya. They have all done well and I have taken care to see that all of them get equal share. Here I must mention that Yuvan Shankar Raja has excelled himself. All the eight songs, written by Vaali, are unique. I have the support of some of the best hands in the field. For instance, Balakumaran is writing the dialogue, `Kanal' Kannan is looking after stunts, Antony is doing the editing with Rajivan taking care of art. I consider Priyan to be my eyes."

And what about the storyline? "One can say that I am targeting the youth this time. The screenplay is completely new and it will be a different kind of film which my fans will find riveting." With that Simbu moves on to continue the work.
