Annabhishekam at Senthalai temple
Annabhishekam will be performed at Lord Meenakshi Sundareswarar temple, Senthalai, on November 15. The village is situated east of Tirukattupalli, on the southern banks of Kudamurutti in Thanjavur district. This ritual takes place on the full moon day in the Tamil month of Aippasi.
Devotees from all over south throng the temple to witness the ceremony. A special feature is that on this day, the rays of the full moon fall on the deity's face at 9 p.m.
The day's schedule begins with special vibhuti abishekam at 11 a.m., followed by other abhishekams. At 5 p.m. Lord Sundareswarar is decorated with rice and vegetables. At 9 p.m. arthajama puja is performed.
The rice is removed at 10.30 p.m. A small portion is offered to the waters of Kudamurutti and the rest is distributed among devotees as prasadam.
Puja to saptakannigai is considered significant in this temple where the gopuram of Goddess Meenakshi is an architectural delight to behold.
