Laudable staging

P. SURYA RAO

Good choreography and fine music marked the staging of `Yasoda Krishna'.

MYTHICAL TALE A scene from `Yasoda Krishna'.

Yasoda Krishna an enthralling dance drama produced by Nritya Kinnera was presented as this week's cultural programme as part of weekly cultural programme series sponsored the State Department of Culture, Andhra Pradesh. The programme took place at Kshetrayya Kala Kshetram, Vijayawada.

Maddali Usha Gayatri and her large team of well-trained artistes succeeded in winning the hearts of the audience. Almost every scene choreographed by Usha Gayatri, who heads Nritya Kinnera with great care and propriety, was neatly presented with apt music and fine co-ordination. The drama depicting mainly the childish and mischievous pranks of Krishna reflected excellent team effort and involvement. The scenes where Yasoda views the whole universe in the mouth of Krishna and gopikas appealing to Yasoda to control mischievous child were imaginatively and attractively choreographed.

The sincere effort of the artistes was amply complimented by a fine music team led by singers Pasumarthi Seshubabu and Vempati Srivalli Sarma. The drama was well written by Kakuturi Padmavathi and directed by Usha Gayatri who also played the main role of Yasoda creditably. Other characters were played by Ujjvala (Narada), Bhavani (Rohini), Pushkari, Sri Kaustubha, Sreya, Harika Reddy, Suseela and Anisha(Gopikas).

The characters of Narada and Garga Maha Muni were played by Lakshmisri and Harshita respectively. Pasumarti Seshubabu's nattuvangam was efficient. Ayyagari Syamasunder, principal of Government Music College, supervised the programme.
