Women in cinema

A scene from `Tahara.'

Short Cuts will organise its eighth Mini-Festival Edition on November 20. Following up on its earlier theme, the current edition has been titled `Women in Cinema - 2'. This edition will feature a set of four films - In the Morning by Danielle Lurie, Tahara by Sara Rashad, Liquor v/s Living by Jyoti Patil, and The Loser by Sini. In the Morning is a Turkish film that recounts the true events of an actual "honour killing". The second film is an Egyptian one that revolves around the controversy, horror, and cultural struggle surrounding female genital mutilation.

Liquor v/s Living talks of societal and legal biases, which on one hand snatch the basic right to livelihood from some and on the other lead to indiscriminate creation of wealth for the few. It is all about the people who are stuck with a choice of committing a crime or to die. The last film, The Loser, is a philosophical comment on the things that actually give meaning too our lives.

The films will be screened on Sunday, November 20 at 6.30 p.m. at Prasad Lab's Preview Theatre. For invitations, please contact 040-30603311 or email: pasha@shortcuts.in. You can also visit www.shortcuts.in for more details.
