Scriptwriter-actor Gollapudi plans to embark on an autobiography soon.

Noted story writer and film actor, Gollapudi Maruti Rao
"Autobiography is one way of undercutting the popularity of a man", laughs Gollapudi , revealing his plan to write one soon. "The invisible aura around a VIP makes the public think beyond his original self, as if he has jumped from the sky. Autobiography is the best way to dispel this myth."
For a man who has been under the media glare both as a film actor and a novelist, writing an autobiography may be more than a daunting task. Gollapudi Maruti Rao has been a multi-faceted personality, hogging the limelight in the tinsel town as a scriptwriter, character actor, comedian and villain, even while equally contributing to the field of literature as a storywriter and novelist. He has also conducted talk shows on the television, both political and family-based programmes.
The `Gollapudi connection' goes further .Popular personalities that he has association with include Pandit Nehru, Babu Rajendra Prasad, S. Radhakrishnan, Krishna Menon, Baldev Singh and even Yuri Gagarin.
Among the Telugus, he is known for his close contacts with P.V.Narasimha Rao, Mangalampalli Balamuralikrishna, Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Bapu-Ramana, K.Viswanath and Rama Naidu among others.
The 66-year old has been writing his diary since he was 14 , while the short notes compiled from the 52 yearly diaries has run into a whopping 480 pages. But, he is undecided yet whether to bring it out in the form of a book or to write it as a serial in a Telugu daily or weekly. However, he is aware of the twin disadvantages in serialising an autobiography, as it could both rob the reader interest and fix a timeframe for his thoughts as well. It would also be a problem for the magazine to fix up a schedule, he noted.
Rao is already writing a travelogue for a Telugu daily on his recent Tanzania visit and has sufficient inputs to write more on his trips to 15 other countries. The thespian K. Jaggaiah has also asked Gollapudi to write a trilogy linking the characters from his famous novel, Sayankalamaindi, on which he has not made up his mind so far.
A person who has wielded the pen with ease for nine plays, 18 play lets, five novels, a couple of compilations of essays and 56 films, Gollapudi is exploring newer ways to make his autobiography as interesting as possible, which is likely to get over 600 pages.
