Nutshell

Concerts cancelled

The keen rasikas who made it to Nehru Park to hear the recital by veteran vocalist Girija Devi and tabla maestro Kishan Maharaj organised by STAR TV in association with Spic Macay Foundation, were disappointed as the performance was cancelled due to the sad demise of former President K.R. Narayanan. Audiences felt the organisers should have made as much effort to advertise the cancellation as the concert itself, billed as Music in the Park.

Music Performances

Manjari Alegaonkar from Pune, a disciple of Pandit Babanrao Haldankar, presented Marathi Natya Sangeet this past Friday at the India International Centre. She concluded her recital with a short rendition of a classical raga.

Young pianist Utsav Lal presented a piano recital at the India Habitat Centre's amphitheatre. While trained in Western classical music, he also plays film songs, which figured in his concert.

Art Exhibitions

The exhibitions on view this past week included recent paintings by Anand Goswami on view at the Lalit Kala Akademi; Sangeeta Singh's "Mixed Metaphors", an exhibition of oil paintings at the Art Lounge, The Ashok Hotel, Chanakyapuri; an exhibition of works of art by A.V. Ilango at the Open Palm Court; and paintings by Indu P. Aron at the Habiart Gallery. Besides, IIC Art Gallery hosted an exhibition "Ikebana: Japanese style of flower arrangement", by the Delhi Chapter of the Ohara School.

Children's show

Ayushree Murthi and S. Aparna, nine-year-old students of G. Elangovan and Marie Elangovan, performed Bharatanatyam to mark Children's Day at Triveni Kala Sangam.
