Karthigai Brahmotsavam

The annual Karthigai Brahmotsvam at Sri Arunachaleswara Temple in Tiruvannamalai is being conducted in December. Dwarjarohanam will be on December 4 and the Karthigai Deepam festival falls on December 13. Bharani Deepam will be lit at 4 a.m. and the Maha Deepam at 6 p.m . Sri Krishna Yajur Veda Parayana Trust has organised Veda parayana on all the ten days. Donations may be addressed to the Managing Trustee, 46, North Iyenkula Agraharam, Tiruvannamalai, 606 601. Donations sought

Sri Maha Ganapathi Temple, Chrompet, is being renovated. The construction cost is estimated at Rs. 18.50 lakhs. Kumbhabishekam will be performed between January and February 2006. Contributions (DD/Cheque/MO) can be sent in the name of Sri Abeeshta Varadha Maha Ganapathi Trust, Ganapathipuram Main Road, Chrompet, Chennai 600 004.

Jugalbandi

Sarvani Sangeetha Sabha is presenting a jugalbandi programme by Pt. Janardhan Mitta on the sitar and U. P. Raju on the mandolin on December 3 at Music Academy Mini Hall at 6.30 p.m. The concert is not ticketed. For details, contact: 2815 1417.

Remembrance Day

In connection with the 58th Remembrance Day of carnatic music composer Kallidaikurichi E. S. Sankaranarayanan Iyer on December 2, Maragatham Sankaranarayanan Trust, Besant Nagar (Ph: 2491 0335/2491 6884) and Brahma Gana Sabha are organising a concert by S. Sowmya at Sivagami Pethatchi Auditorium. B. U. Ganesh Prasad (violin) and Poongulam Subramaniam (mridangam).

Thematic presentation

Kalasamarpana Foundation (www.webindia.com/Kalasamarpana) is organising `Subhashitham (Eternal Words of Wisdom), a thematic presentation in the Indian classical Bharatanatyam idiom. Composed and choreographed by the dance couple, M. V. Narasimhachari and M. Vasanthalakshmi, this dance drama has put together a team of 55, comprising musicians, dancers and technicians. The programme premieres at the Music Academy on December 4, 6 p.m.

Award for PSN

Sruthi Laya Kendra, is launching its 18th Winter Music Festival on December 18, at Asthiga Samajam. The Guru Surajananda Award will be conferred on P. S. Narayanaswamy. Dance exponent Padma Subramaniam will receive the Gowri Manohari award. Industrialist Obul Reddy will present the award that carries Rs.10,000 and memento.
