Rare melodies

Abbas/Prabhat will present `Paadatha Paatellam,' Ganesh Kripa's rare collection of golden melodies, on December 4, 6.30 p.m., at Kamarajar Arangam. The singers include S. P. Shailaja, Saindhavi, Kovai Murali and Ananthu. Cine musicians Tabla Prasad, violinist M. Kalyan and Trumpet Thomas will be part of the orchestra. For tickets contact: 98400 51463.

National seminar

A two-day National seminar conducted by University of Madras, Department of Indian Music on `Teaching Methodology in Music and Dance in State Government Institutions, Colleges and Universities in Tamil Nadu' is on at Senate Hall, University Centenary Building, Chepauk. Today (December 2), V. K. Manimaran will give a concert at 10 a.m. The seminar begins at 11 a.m. and the topic for the forenoon session is `Music - Foundation Course' chaired by S. R. Jayaseethalakshmi. R. Abhiramasundari will also take part. In the `Music - Treatises' session, E. Angayarkanni and M. A. Bhageerathi will be the participants. The afternoon session (2-5 p.m.) will be on `Music - Compositions' and `Music - Improvisation' with V. Subramanyam (chairperson), S. R. Jayaseethalakshmi, Lalitha Rukmini, S. Subbulakshmi, M. Premeela (chairperson), K. S. Resmi and Rajshri Sripathy taking part.

Thirukkalyanam

Sri Dharma Sastha's Tirukkalyana Mahotsavam is scheduled to take place on December 3 and 4 at Udaya Mahal Tirumana Mandapam (near Pookadai Chatram). The rituals will be performed by Chennai Ullagaram Sri Vijaya Ganapathi Mandali. T. V. Narasimha Prasad Guruswami Bhagavathar will preside. Sri Seetharama Bhajana Mandali (sampradaya bhajans), Cuddalore Gopi Bhagavathar and troupe (Panduranga Leelaigal) will perform. On Sunday, after the Tirukkalyana Utsavam (12 noon), Anjaneya Utsavam will follow. For details, contact: 2435 9903.

Slokas on Ganapathy

Pragnya will launch `Amruthavarsha — The Shower of Vedic Elixir,' Slokas on Ganapathi, Guru and Navagraha (first in the series of a unique collection of Vedic Sanskrit slokas original Sanskrit script, English transliteration and English meaning in book and audio CD form.) Sudha Raghunathan will release the same on December 2, 5.30 p.m., at Landmark, Spencer Plaza.
