Travails of a journalist

S. R. ASHOK KUMAR.

Coming from the director of `Parthiban Kanavu,' `Chadurangam,' is bound to raise expectations.

A FILM FOR THE ENTIRE FAMILY: `Chadurangam.'

It was early morning and the street in Mylapore was quiet except for the drone of the generator that indicated shooting was in progress in one of the houses.

It was not difficult to locate and inside was Srikanth with director Karu. Pazhaniappan giving instructions and Divakaran ready with his camera. The team is joined by Sonia Agarwal.

It is Srikanth's house and his sweet heart (Sonia Agarwal) visits him. She takes leave but forgets to pick up her handbag. As she returns to collect it her cell starts ringing. Srikanth is about to open her bag but she prevents him and there follows a tussle and an argument.

Love story

`` `Chadurangam' is almost ready for release," said the director after the shot. "It is the story of press reporter. I wanted my second film to be completely different from my first one `Parthiban Kanavu.' It was a family drama and love was incidental. But here I am doing a love story with a neat screenplay. It is about a press reporter and naturally you will find the names of a number of VIPs figuring. But this love story will be different and the audience will not forget Srikanth and Sonia Agarwal in a hurry. It is a neat film for the entire family," he elaborates.

Turning point

And he adds as an afterthought, ``I sincerely hope it proves a turning point for Srikanth. He had done a memorable job in `Parthiban Kanavu.' Pazhaniappan has worked on the story to present a strong and interesting screenplay, which is supported by the music of Vidyasagar. Suresh Ars has honed the product with some thoughtful editing."

A touching detail. The hero is called Tirupatisamy, after the young director, who died in a road accident. He was Pazhaniappan's senior at Ananda Vikatan where the two did a short stint.

Manivannan is also in the cast with Mahadevan playing the villain.
