Music Recitals

The India International Centre was the venue for a Carnatic music recital on the veena by R.R. Ayyar and Saraswati Rajagopalan this past Sunday.

Besides, the IIC also hosted a musical homage to Begum Rafia Hussain by Indira Varma and Noorjahan Sarwat, a multi-traditional musical homage by friends of Begum Rafia Husain and Nizami Premi.

And to mark the 50th death anniversary of Asrarulhuq Majaz, a well kown urdu poet, Begum Muneer Khatoon presented ghazals and nazams, at the IIC auditorium.

Sikkil C. Guru Charan from Chennai, a disciple of Vaigai S. Gnanaskandan, rendered a Carnatic vocal recital at the same venue this past week. Alliance Francaise de Delhi presented a harpsichord recital by Justin McCarthy at its auditorium this past Tuesday and a musical evening by the flute quartet of Pondicherry and Hindustani vocalist Banishree Falisse this past Thursday.

Foreign Films

While the Italian Cultural Centre screened the Italian film Farinelli, the Alliance Francaise de Delhi presented the French thriller L'homme du Train (Man on the Train).

Cultural Ballet

Urvashi Dance Music Art and Cultural Society presented Sampoorna Nidaan, a ballet on the theme of awareness and prevention of HIV/AIDS at the Talkatora Gardens.

The event was inaugurated by Ajay Maken, M.P., while Karan Singh, Chairman of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, psresided over the event.

Art exhibitions

The art exhibitions that concluded recently included Polka-I at the Polka Art Gallery in Defence Colony and the India-Bhutan photography exhibition at the Habitat Centre

Ensemble

The Italian Cultural Centre is organising a concert by the famous ensemble "I Solisti Veneti" in association with ABN AMRO bank.
