Ghantasala remembered

A gala show was held here to mark the `jayanthi' celebrations of the noted playback artiste.

TRIBUTE TIME Artistes pay respects to the ace singer.

Ghantasala continues to be a legend even after his demise quite sometime back. His voice helped artistes like A. Nageswara Rao and N.T. Rama Rao to go up in image, especially in romantic and devotional themes.

As part of the jayanthi celebrations of the maestro, the Department of Culture and Cultural Council organised a gala show at Lalitha Kala Thoranam.

Attending the function, Chief Minister Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy recalled the great services Ghantasala rendered as ace playback singer of Telugu cinema. He felt happy that his memory was being perpetuated this way.

Minister Satyanarayana Rao too recalled his personal association with Ghantasala, who sang for Chivaraku Migiledi that he made as a film producer, at one time. The Chief Minister felicitated Ghantasala's wife Savitri at the function apart from giving away awards to the winners in the rendition of Ghantasala's songs.

Ramanapathro of Vizianagaram, T. Bhavani ( Warangal), Pavan Kumar (Vizianagaram) and T.K. Pranavi ( Hyderabad), won first prizes respectively in different categories. Singers Mano, Vandemataram Srinivas, Gangadhar, Mohanakrishna, Vijayalakshmi, and G.V. Prabhakar and others rendered chosen songs, solos and duets, of Ghantasala on the occasion.
