On an adventurous trail

S. R. ASHOK KUMAR

In ``Paramasivam," directed by P. Vasu, Ajith is appearing in three characters.

IMPRESSIVE: On the sets of `Paramasivam.'

P. Vasu is racing against time. ``Paramasivam," starring Ajith, is scheduled for Pongal and work was going on in full swing at the AVM Studio, where one caught up with the director. Incidentally one found Priyadarshan busy shooting his Hindi film on the other side.

Fight sequence

The stunt master and Ajith were discussing a fight sequence to be shot on the road nearby. Vivek was around in a police inspector's garb. "Comedy is an important ingredient of the film," explained the director.

``Ajith was quite impressed with the screenplay when I narrated it. And he was prepared to reduce. His waist has come down from 42 to 32 inches, thanks to the four hours of exercise he does daily. He is doing three characters — not three roles — in the film and all the three are different from one another."

Ajith, known for the hard work that he puts in, is looking forward to the three films that will be released in quick succession. "Vasu has a pleasant way of extracting work. I am happy about the way the screenplay has been written for "Paramasivam," he said.

The director has shot a bike chase nearly 500 ft., informed a unit hand. Ajith has driven the vehicle at 80 miles speed, hands free. To show that it is actually Ajith, who is riding, different shots, including pan shots, have been taken.

"Ajith is as dedicated as Kamal Haasan and Rajnikanth. I have worked with all the top stars of the Tamil field. Ajith has not changed over the years. He is hard working, sincere and easy to work. Laila has a very sentimental role in the film. Like the heroines of `Chinna Thambi,' `Mannan,' and `Walter Vetrivel' Laila's performance will be talked about. She has done a very good job. Vivek is going to leave the audience in splits, just as Vadivelu did in `Chandramukhi,' said the director. Prakash Raj is doing an important role and it would be really interesting to see Jayaram, playing a CBI officer, speak broken Tamil with Malayalam. The character has been drawn with a humorous touch."

Sekar V. Joseph is behind the camera. Music is being scored by Vidyasagar for the film edited by Suresh Ars.
