`Tiger' will see Suresh Gopi donning the role of a cop who lets his head and not heart do the talking.

SMOOTH OPERATOR: Suresh Gopi plays a cool headed policeman in `Tiger.'
Chandrashekhar, Crime Branch SP, and Bharatchandran, an officer of the Indian Police Service (IPS), have very different working styles and belong to two genres of the men in police uniform. The latter is an emotional cop, who lets his head and heart do the talking, while the former, a suave police official, believes in smooth operations and gives priority to the head over the heart. These are the main differences between the two super cop roles that Suresh Gopi dons in `Bharatchandran IPS,' an Onam release, and Sri Uthruttathi Films' `Tiger,' releasing today.
According to the movie's author, B. Unnikrishnan, it cannot be bracketed into the `action' category. The story hinges on a missing woman journalist and a political twist that sparks off the story.
"I had a great responsibility, and took a risk doing this film, as `Tiger' comes close on the heels of `Bharatchandran.' So, I have given it an entirely different treatment, as you will see. The suspense is maintained till four minutes before the climax," says director Shaji Kailas.
Cinegoers get to see Congress leader Rajmohan Unnithan playing a politician. In this whodunit, there is almost no gory violence, only short fight sequences, says Shaji. "Only mind games," says Unnikrishnan, who has written the story, script and dialogues .
"The spot editing, done perhaps for the first time in Malayalam cinema, in `Tiger,' by Don Max, helped the movie. When it is edited on spot, and actors get to see the scenes, it is a great encouragement for them , as also the involvement of everyone on the set. " explains Shaji. Apart from the fact that the camera pans delightful visuals, the movie is fast paced, say its makers. "Where usually 10 shots are done in a time frame, there are 60, to make the audience really sit on the edge of their seats," Shaji adds.
Suresh Gopi is also enthused about his `not-so-angry-man' image in the movie, where, like a tiger, (that's how the name of the movie came about, when it was changed from `SP') Chandrashekhar waits patiently for the opportune moment to spring on the culprit.
Though a cop, Suresh Gopi is in mufti, till the last scene, where he dons the uniform.
"While Bharat was fiery, like `Commissioner,' Chandrashekhar is cool. Shaji has brought out a new performance from me . The background music by Rajamony contributes to the film," Suresh adds.
Says cinematographer Shamdat, Ravi K. Chandran's disciple, "We tried to take part of the shot in natural light. The colour scheme was well worked out. " he remarks. "It's a 100 per cent thriller," says Unnikrishnan, who honed his skills in this school of writing, with the `Black and White' TV series.
Gopika plays the journalist while Sai Kumar and Anand play cops who assist Suresh Gopi. Janardhanan is the journalist's father.
Suvarna Mathew plays Gopika's sister. Rajan P. Dev, Murali, Siddique, Thilakan, Subair, Vijayakumar, Anand, Vineeth Kumar, Santhosh, Ponnamma Babu, and Sadique form part of the cast.
