Singer felicitated

Playback singer Chitra regaled the audience with her chart busters and devotional numbers at the musical nite organised in her honour.

Sangam Academy organised a function at the Lalitha Kala Thoranam last week featuring Chitra, the legend in playback music. It was a musical nite organised in her honour . Sangam Academycompleted two decades of its existence and marked the occasion with this laudable programme.

The Academy felicitated Chitra in the presence of the first playback singer of Telugu cinema — Ravu Balasaraswathi. Dharmavarapu Subrahmanyam, chairman, Cultural Council, said Chitra's renditions were a combination of the voices of Suseela and Janaki.

While Ravu Balasaraswathi observed that nobody would believe Chitra belonged to Kerala looking at her perfect diction and her well rendered Telugu songs. She appealed to the present day singers to take Chitra as their model.

Chitra rendered a good selection of songs for the event, some of which won her awards at national and State level, like the song from Sindhu Bhairavi.

Two much

It was more interesting to watch Chitra singing Ma perati jamchettu from the film Pelli Sandadi in the presence of Ravali who played the role on the screen, for which the song was written. Innallaku gurtochana that won the Nandi award recently and Ye swasalo cherite were beautiful renditions.

Kallalloki kallu petti from the film Nuvve Kaavali was again fine rendition as also Telusa manasa (Criminal). Asale gurthuku raadu (Bombay) and the semi classical Kannanule were also great renditions by her.

Nuvvu vigileste from Simhadri featuring NTR had the audience asking for more. She also added to her list some songs from musicals and devotionals like Annamayya, with classical flavour.

Vinod Babu and party lent instrumental support. Muralikrishna and Vijayalakshmi (also a good singer) compered the programme.

The event was well attended by film music composers and artistes of Telugu cinema, besides a notable audience .
