Tribute to Chowdiah
Rich tributes were paid to violin maestro Mysore Chowdiah (who became synonymous with the instrument) under the aegis of the Mysore University College of Fine Arts. Advocate K. Srikantaiah, founder of the Chowdiah Memorial Music Festival at Mysore, spoke about the personality and contribution of Mysore Chowdiah.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Shashidhara Prasad assured that Chowdiah's work and contribution to the music world would be well documented. Chowdiah is believed to be instrumental in establishing the College of Music and Dance, to bring these two classical art forms on the world map of music.
Two music concerts were held a violin trio and a flute recital in memory of this legendary artiste of Mysore.
Selective compositions of the maestro in raga Bahudhari ("Prasanna Ganapathe"), Pancharatna of Tyagaraja in raga Sree ("Endaro mahanubhavulu") and Purandara's "Jagadodharana" by the violin trio.
This was followed by the flute recital of Chowdiah's family prodigy Master Chandan Kumar in raga Kuntharavarali marked the disappointing cultural programmes of the evening.
Nevertheless, Mysore Nagaraj was at his best among the trio.
