Sri Saikala Niketan with its monthly schedule of staging a poetic play in the Prema Samajam Hall without break for over 11 years has come to stay very popular in and around Visakhapatnam. Its 137th programme last week featured Satya Harischandra of Balijepalli Lakshmikantam under its own banner.
Nandi Award winner and the founder member of the Niketan, B.V.A. Naidu not only directed it with finesse but also lived the role of Viswamitra. His son Bagadi Vijaya Sai as Nakshtraka, Gana Samrat title holder, Vijaya Sai in the title role, T. Dali Naidu as Satyakeerthi and Kesava, G.S. Reddy as Janardhana and Bhetala, B.A. Naidu as Kalakousika, Kumari D. Dhana Lakshmi as Matanga Kanya, Master Prasad as Lohitha, L. Joga Rao as Siva and especially D. Vidyavathi as Chandramukhi made it an engagingly absorbing show.
Ella Appa Rao on harmonium and Noor Saheb on tabla lent good support. Credits for stage decor, make-up, costume, lighting and stage management were meritoriously shared by I.S.N. Murty, N.A. Naidu, D. Jagga Rao, B. Bapu Naidu, P.V.R. Murty, N. Simhadri and R. Kesava Raju under the supervision of the Niketan's president, Chowdary Appa Rao.
