Strides on the proscenium

SUCCESS RUN: `Kadhalikka Neramundu.'

United Amateur Artistes (UAA) are as active as always. The drama troupe has just returned from a successful tour of Denmark, Norway and Switzerland, where they staged 20 shows of their latest comedy, `Kadhalikka Naeramundu.'

UAA has the distinct honour of being the only Tamil troupe that has performed in these countries. The tour included the U. S. too. Again, it is said to be the only theatre group to have gone over to the U. S. for the eighth time since 1989, to present their plays.

`Kadhalikka Naeramundu' will go on stage for their 100th show on January 29, 2006, at Rani Seethai Hall.

"Plans are afoot to make `Kadhalikka ... ' into a feature film," UAA's director Y. Gee. Mahendra informs. The troupe's next play to be inaugurated on February 17, 2006, at Bharat Kalachar, will be, `Thanthira Mukhi.' "Not a spoof but a story with re-birth as its theme and again written by `Chitralaya' Sriram, the writer of our `Kadhalikka Naeramundu,'" clarifies Mahendra.

YGM and his crew will be busy this music season, providing fare for drama lovers. On December 24, it will be `Ragasiyam Parama Ragasiyam' at Rajaji Vidyashram School Hall, Kilpauk; Dec. 25, `Ragasiyam Parama Ragasiyam,' — Vani Mahal, T. Nagar; January 1, 2006, `Kadhalikka Naeramundu' — Bharat Kalachar; Jan. 3, `Ragasiyam Parama Ragasiyam' — Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan School, K.K. Nagar; Jan. 5, `Kadhalikka Naeramundu' — Rani Seethai Hall; Jan.8, `Ragasiyam Parama Ragasiyam' — Dr. Rama Rao Kala Mandap. The plays will begin at 6.30 p.m. on all the days.
