Big brother Venky takes charge

M.L. Narasimham

Venkatesh-starrer `Lakshmee', which promises to be an action-packed family entertainer, is all set for a Sankranti release.

INTRIGUING & INTERESTING TWISTS Venkatesh is all set to entertain the audience with Nayantara in tow.

Taking the road down Padmalaya Studios, we reached the sprawling Aluminium factory in Gachibowli, by now a familiar location for shooting action sequences. Producer Nallamalupu Srinivas, a.k.a Bujji, had tipped us off that the climax shoot for his big-budgeted Lakshmee, presented by Baby Bhavya, was to be shot here.

As action director Kanal Kannan calls the shots on hero Venkatesh and three dozen stuntmen, V.V. Vinayak checks out the proceedings on a monitor . Also spotted at the venue are Shayaji Shinde, Pradeep Singh Rawat, Rajeev Kanakala, Sarwanand, Nayanatara and Charmee.

"All the lead actors are participating in the shoot," chips in Bujji. "Rarely do we come across such perfect combination of mass elements and family drama in one subject (story by Akula Siva). Add to that the dynamic pair of two Vs - hero Venkatesh and director Vinayak, and we have a perfect winner," says the producer who made the hit film Aadhi with Vinayak. The hero looks every inch a gentle business magnate, though he is taking on the goons in a very macho manner.

"The hero's name is Lakshmi Narayana but everybody calls him Lakshmee. He is the managing director of a factory and responsible elder brother of two younger brothers - Rajeev Kanakala and Sarwanand and two younger sisters - Uma and Revathi. As he fulfills his responsibilities towards his family, interesting, intriguing and entertaining twists take shape," Bujji reveals.

Nayanatara of Chandramukhi fame makes her debut in Telugu as the hero's cousin while Charmee plays personal assistant. That brings us down to the two ace actors from Mumbai. "I will not disclose much about the roles played by Shayaji and Pradeep Rawat. In most families, we have a character like Sakuni. This story too has such characters," says Bujji with a smile. "Ramana Gogula's music has met with terrific response. All the five songs are duets. We shot two of them in New Zealand, while one song is yet to be filmed. We plan to go to Dubai in the first week of January to shoot the final song on Venkatesh and Charmee, to be choreographed by Brinda," he continues.

Team spirit

Over to the scene. The fight master rearranges the positions of the fighters, planning to take the shot from another angle. "Working with Venkatesh is a pleasant and rewarding experience. The film lays importance on the responsibility of a person towards his family but we are not attempting to give `heavy' messages. The action scenes are realistic and the film will leave a pleasant feel," says the ace director. Venkatesh complements the director's feelings. "We vibe well and we both share one common factor - we think from the producer's point of view. Lakshmee is a clever mixture of mass power and family sentiments, due for release this Sankranti."

With the brief recess over, the director calls for the shot. The actors rehearse before the take. "Chota K. Naidu has done a marvellous job with the camera and so has art director Vivek. We have a good team and the blessings and support of D. Suresh Babu." Nallamalupu Srinivas is happy that he has roped the in best of talents. That sure is as good a bet as any for a hit in the New Year.
