Melodic concerts

P. Vijayambika

Rasikas in Palakkad were treated to three Carnatic recitals.

Three Carnatic recitals provided a sumptuous feast for rasikas in Palakkad.

Of the three, a duet by Padma Narayana Swamy, wife of the late K.V. Narayana Swamy, and Anuradha Suresh Krishna Moorthy, daughter of the renowned musician, was remarkable.

The concert was organised by the Palakkad chapter of Swaralaya to pay homage to K.V. Narayana Swamy. The vocal concert started with the famous `Ada thala varnam' of Ichimarareejeen Adiyappayya in Raga Bhairavi.

Anuradha's rendition of Panthuvarali was a treat for the music aficionados. The main item of the concert was an alapana in Mohanam followed by a Thyagaraja kriti `Nannupalimpa' set to Adi thala.

Another fine Carnatic recital was that of M.K. Thejaswini, organised by Fine Arts Society, Palakkad, at Chembai Memorial Music College.

She started the concert with a rare varnam of Syama Sasthri `Neevegathi yani Neranammithani' in Raga Kalyani. It was followed by a Thyagaraja kriti Ragavatta `Neeve bhajanaseeju' set to Adi thala. She sang a Deekshithar kriti `Balambika' set to Adi thalam. The main item of the concert was Ragam, Thanam, Pallavi in Hamsavadam ragam in Khauda Thriputa Thalam.

Another vocal concert (duet) organised in connection with Nurani Sastha Preethi festival also impressed music lovers. Prabha Prakash and Padma Murali started with a Kanada Ada thala varnam `Neranammithi.' `Chenthil Andvan' in Kharaharapriya and `Sarorahasana' in Panthuvarali, were the main songs.
