For the first time, the Malayalam version of the verses by Kabir Das, the poet who conquered the sub-continent with his soulful music in the middle ages, has been rendered and brought out in an album.
Titled `Kabir Music of Harmony,' the album has been brought out by Pushpa, a Thrissur-based music teacher. The album contains nine dohas (couplets) written by Kabir. V. Aravindakshan, Sreekrishnan and P. Salim Raj have translated the dohas.
Spontaneous expression
" Kabir sought to free human beings spiritually. His songs are spontaneous expressions of his love and singular vision," says Pushpa. Kabir Das sang about communal harmony andthe dohas written by him conquered the hearts of people.
"I have tried to convey his message through simple musical expressions," says Pushpa, who has set the dohas to tune and rendered them.
A postgraduate in music from Chembai Government Music College, Palakkad, she has performed several stage shows across Kerala. Pushpa wrote the score for the album three years ago, but could not find a producer. Her long wait ended when she met Binoynath, an entreprenur from Irinjalakuda who is interested in music and poetry.
Guitar, sitar, dholak, flute and keyboards have been used in the music scores.
