WRITER'S CORNER Release of Visakha Kaala Vrittanta Pattika'.
There was an absolute torrent of book release functions last week. The first off the block was a book titled Visakha Kaala Vrittantha Patrika, a gist of notable events that occurred in Visakhapatnam, compiled in chronological order. The book also covered events in Vizianagaram district, now a separate territory.
Starting with a brief historical and geographical sketch, P. Soma Raju, retired professor and head of department, AU Library Science, brought out the gist of events beginning with the days of Kharavela of the Chedi dynasty from 2 BC till date. This was done with laudable exactitude. Soma Raju has authored 10 books and 25 research papers on the subject. Besides being a holder of Masters and Doctoral degrees in commerce and library science, he is a member of the experts committee for library science of the Centre for Leather Research Institute, Chennai, and NAL, Bangalore. On the occasion, Raju was introduced by Sudhakar Rao, Associate Professor, Library Science, Lankapalli Bullaiah College. The book was released by AU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. L. Venugopal Reddy at a function held in the Conference Hall of Visakha Public Library. Former High Court Judge, Justice B.V. Ranga Raju presided over the function and Prof. R.S.R. Varalakshmi analysed the contents in detail.
In a separate programme, Visakha Saraswatha Vedika, established by renowned statesman the late Tenneti Viswanatham in 1960, released the Telugu version of Charla Ganapathi Sastry's Bhagavad Gita. The release was part of the jayanthi celebrations of Sastry, a noted Gandhian, freedom fighter, writer and poet. Sastry's Sulabha Samskrutha Chandrika, a book aimed at imparting working knowledge of Sanskrit to the layman through, Telugu, Hindi and English in three months, was also released. The books were released by K. Malayavasini, retired AU Prof. (Telugu), at the function held in Sri Sankaramatham with Acharya Sarvabhouma and Vedula Subrahmanya Sastry in the chair. Two more books - Vyaasageethi by Oleti Bangareswara Sarma, retired principal of AU Engineering College and renowned poet, and Saktihastam by young writer Mallireddy Chandrasekhar - were also released on the occasion.
