Nutshell

Third anniversary

The Vedic Sangeetha Foundation will be celebrating its 3rd anniversary on January 18, 3 p.m. at Asthika Samajam, Venus Colony.

The 45th Jeer Srimad Azhagiasingar of Ahobila Mutt, Selaiyur, will grace the occasion.

The function will be inaugurated by N. Murali, Joint Managing Director, The Hindu and president, The Music Academy. T. S. Krishnamurthy, former CEC will preside over the function and Dr. M. A. M. Ramaswamy, Pro Chancellor of Annamalai University will be the chief guest. Agnihotri E. B. Rangaraja Chariar of Rig Vedam will be honoured.

Harikatha

The Nadopasana Music Trust has arranged for Harikatha by Kadayanallur Sri Ganapathi Thukaram and party on January 14 and January 15 at 6.30 p.m. and 6.05 p.m. respectively, at Sri Dakshinamurthy Auditorium, Mylapore.

Workshop

SHI-BA Academy, Thirumangalam Road, Villivakkam, will be organising a workshop for housewives who wish to conduct camps for children.

Training will be given for two months in music, yoga, aerobics, general exercises, slokas, bhajans and drawing and colouring.

Free introductory session will be conducted on January 21 at 10 a.m. It will also be organising `Tyagaraja Aradhana Day' on January 19 from 7 a.m. in its premises.

The sabha invites singers and instrumentalists to participate. Pancharatna kritis will be rendered by Ramjhi's Isai Mazhalai group. In connection with this, the sabha will be conducting a music competition on January 11 from 10 a.m. for children between 10 and 15 years of age. For details contact Ph: 2618 0611.

Tyagaraja aradhana

Sri Thiagaraja Sangeetha Vidwath Samajam, Mylapore, will be conducting Sri Tyagaraja aradhana mahotsavam on January 18 from 5 a.m. V. V. Subrahmanyam, V. V. Ravi and V. V. S. Murari will be giving a violin concert at 6 p.m. Rendering of Pancharatna kritis will be at 10.30 a.m. on January 19 (Pushya Bahula Panchami).

The programme will commence with vedaparayanam and abhishekam at 8 a.m. Dr. V. V. Srivatsa will be giving a lecdem on `Panchanada Kshetra Prabhavam' at 6 p.m. On January 30, Anjaneya utsavam will be conducted at 9.30 p.m.

Perambur Sangeetha Sabha will be organising Sri Tyagaraja aradhana on January 16, 5 p.m. at Sankaralayam Hall, Meenakshi Street.

Honour for artists

Sri Parthasarathy Swami Sabha will be celebrating dance festival for 18 days from January 16 at the Mylapore Fine Arts Club Hall.

Dr. Nalli Kuppuswami Chetti will inaugurate and confer the title `Sangeetha Kalasarathy' on Kalanidhi Narayanan at 6.15 p.m. This will be followed by a Bharatanatyam recital by Neeraja Srinivasan. Those who are adjudged as the best performers of the December Music Festival — S. Mahathi and S. M. Vilasini (vocal); Jayanthi Desav and G. Venkatasubramaniam (violin) and Trivandrum Balaji and A. V. Manikandan (mridangam) — will be honoured with certificates and momentos.

Prize distribution

Shreyas, a non-profit service academy, K. K. Nagar, will distribute prizes for children who participated in the Tiruppavai contest held recently. The function will conducted at Narada Gana Sabha on January 15 at 9 a.m. Dr. S. S. Badrinath, Chairman, Sankara Nethralaya, will be the chief guest.

Clarification: The violinist who accompanied G. Ravikiran (Music Season, January 10) at Sri Parthasarathy Swami Sabha was K. Gokul, and not as published.
