Pouranic dramas taken up with flair

`Sri Krishna Tulabaaram' and spiritual discourses marked the cultural kaleidoscope last week.

The 138th monthly schedule of pouranic plays of poetic idiom featured Sri Krishna Tulabaaram in the Prema Samajam Hall.

A mythological event that depicts how Satyabhama to fulfil her desire of taking possession of Lord Krishna all for herself, egoistically, on the advice of Narada bestows him as a gift to the saint singer who himself advised her to do so. As per the agreement, she wanted to buy him back by way of weighing him in a balance with an equal weight of gold, diamonds so on and so forth possessed by her. Only after all such of her efforts go in vain she realises that the lord belongs to the entire universe and he is the Almighty personified was the story.

Ganasamrat titleholder Bagadi Vijaya Saradhi as Krishna, Vijaya Sai as Narada, B.A. Naidu as Vasantaka among others, D. Jagga Rao, B. Bapunaidu, R. Satya Rao, T. Dalinaidu and G.S. Reddy, exhibited excellent histrionic talent.

The credits behind the curtains were well shared by Ella Appa Rao on harmonium, Surisaheb on tabla, make-up, stage-decor and others by P.V.R. Murthy, D.V.N.R. Naidu, D. Maheshbabu, N. Simhadri, R. Kesav Rao and Chowdary Appa Rao, the president of the Niketan.

Sankranthi celebrations

Celebrating the Sankranthi festival, spiritual discourses, Godavaibhavam by T.P.S. Acharyulu, Bhakthimaargam ( D.V. Surya Rao) and Sankranthi Visisthatha (by Garimella Radhakrishna Murthy) were organised on January 13, 14 and 15 respectively, under the aegis of Sri Lalitha Peetham in its premises.

Recitals of devotional songs like compositions of Annamayya by P.V.S. Lakshmi and B. Himabindu, classical compositions Himagiritanaye, Sarasijanabhesodari and Paranmukhamelanamma by Kalluri Sobhakrishnamurthy and J. Lakshmiprasanna, Ganalahari by Indira Bharadwaj and classical vocal recital by Ch. Sandhya Sundari, preceded the discourses. Elaboration of Paranmukhamelanamma (Kanada) by Sobha, Ambavani (Keeravani) and Ambananaaduvinnapamu (Todi) by Sundari were the highlights. H. Ramacharan on violin and V.V.B. Sankaram on mridangam lent good support. Poojas were also organised by Vaadarevu Subba Rao, manager of the executive committee of the Peetham.
